How to clear a blocked drain

How to clear a blocked drain

For a slow-moving or blocked drain, we recommend trying the following before a plumber is called:

• Purchase a bottle of Drano or a similar drain clearing product from your local supermarket or hardware store — these are widely available and inexpensive.
• Follow the instructions on the packaging carefully, ensuring you allow the product sufficient time to work.
• Run hot water down the drain afterwards to flush it through.
• For bathroom drains, hair and soap build-up are the most common causes — a drain snake or even a bent wire coat hanger can help remove blockages close to the surface.

If the blockage persists after attempting the above, please let us know and we will arrange for a plumber to attend. Please be aware that where a blockage is found to have been caused by foreign objects or inappropriate items being disposed of down the drain, the cost of the callout may be passed on to the renter.
